How To: Create a Thumbnail
How To: Create a Thumbnail

A simple step-by-step guide.

Updated over a week ago

There’s nothing worse, as a member, than having to individually click through each video to find out what it is about or offering. If things take longer than people want it to it’s a big deterrent so you want to make sure you’re making life as easy as possible. Equally, as the creator, there’s nothing worse than spending your time and energy creating amazing content only for it to never be seen. So, how to avoid these problems? Make your thumbnail crystal clear and consistent.

WithMe allows you to choose the video thumbnail and add copy to name the video, but if you want to add brand colours, read on.

Here’s what to do:

  1. We suggest using Canva as it’s simple to use and comes with lots of templates to help get you started.

  2. Create a new document that’s 16:9 size ratio and 1280 x 720 resolution [read our uploading content cheat sheet for more detailed info on size guides and uploads].

  3. Choose an image [or colour if you’d prefer] as the background. If you’re using an image make sure it’s as relevant to the content as possible - e.g if you’re uploading a lower body workout perhaps don’t use a weighted arm image.

  4. Decide on a title that is short and snappy and to the point. Place the text on a background if you find that it’s difficult to read over the background.

  5. Add a time stamp. Is it a 30 minute workout? Or is it a lunch recipe that only takes 10 minutes to make? It’s an important piece of information that we recommend including.

  6. Once you’re happy with your thumbnail, export it as a jpg.

  7. Then, when you’re uploading your content to your FitWith page, add the thumbnail when prompted.

Here are some examples of thumbnails we think are effective:
