🎬 How to Convert .MOV Videos to .MP4 for WithMe Uploads
If you've ever tried uploading a video to WithMe and hit a file size error — there's a good chance your video is in .MOV format. Don't worry — we've got you! Converting to .MP4 is quick, easy, and will usually shrink your file size dramatically. 🎉
📱 Why .MOV Files Cause Upload Issues
Though WithMe supports both mp4 and .MOV files. .MOV files (common on iPhones, iPads, and Macs) are often much larger than .MP4 files — sometimes 3-5x bigger for the same video! That means a 10-minute video that would be 80MB as an .MP4 could easily be 300MB+ as a .MOV, pushing you past the upload limit(5GB).
The fix? Convert your .MOV to .MP4 before uploading. The quality stays great, and the file size drops significantly. Let's walk through three easy ways to do it! 💪
🖥️ Option 1: HandBrake (Free — Mac & Windows)
HandBrake is the go-to free video converter and works beautifully for this. Here's how:
Download HandBrake for free at handbrake.fr and install it.
Open HandBrake and drag your .MOV file into the window (or click Open Source).
Under Format, make sure MP4 is selected.
Leave the preset on Fast 1080p30 — this keeps great quality with a small file size.
Click Browse to choose where to save your new file.
Hit the green Start Encode button and let it run!
