Can I use my EIN instead of my SSN when setting up Stripe?

When You Can Use an EIN

βœ… When You Can Use an EIN

You must set up your Stripe account as a Company rather than as an Individual. This is typically applicable if your business is:

  • A Corporation

  • A Partnership

  • A Limited Liability Company (LLC)

In these cases, your EIN serves as your business's federal tax ID, and you can use it for verification purposes.

⚠️ Important Considerations

  • Sole Proprietors: If you're a sole proprietor without employees, you can still use your EIN if you have one. However, Stripe may still require your SSN for verification purposes, especially if your business is considered a disregarded entity for tax purposes .

  • Stripe Express Accounts: If you're using a Stripe Express account through WithMe, you can update your business information by navigating to Settings > Payments > Manage Account.

  • Stripe Custom Accounts: If you're using a Stripe Custom account and cannot access the option to update your business information, please contact WithMe support at partners@fitwithofficial.com. Provide the following details:

    • Business Type Structure (e.g., Sole Proprietorship, Single-member LLC, Multi-member LLC, Private partnership, Private corporation, Other)

    • Legal Business Name

    • Your EIN

    • A copy of your IRS Form SS-4 to verify your EIN

This information will assist us in updating your account accordingly.

For more detailed information, you can refer to Stripe's guidelines on tax ID verification by business type .
