How do I configure and validate DNS records for a custom domain?

Add the CNAME and TXT records for your custom domain, keep your nameservers, and fix a domain that won't connect.

You can show your WithMe storefront on your own web address. To connect your domain, you add a few DNS records at your domain provider. You keep your existing nameservers. You don't need to delete or replace them.

🧾 The records you add

You need all of these records for your domain to connect:

  • The two CNAME records shown in your WithMe dashboard.

  • A TXT record for your root domain, pointing to WithMe's CloudFront value.

  • A TXT record for the www subdomain (the _www record), pointing to WithMe's CloudFront value.

🛠️ How to set it up

  1. In WithMe, go to More > Custom domain.

  2. Use the Copy button next to each record value so nothing gets mistyped.

  3. Log in to your domain provider, where your domain's DNS is managed. Leave your nameservers as they are.

  4. Add the two CNAME records and the two TXT records, then save your changes.

  5. That's it. WithMe checks automatically, so you can close the window and we'll keep going.

⏳ How long it takes

DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to spread and be picked up by WithMe. After that, your storefront appears on your domain. You don't need to tell us when you've added the records, because WithMe checks for them automatically.

🔍 If your domain won't connect

If your storefront isn't showing on your domain yet, there are two likely reasons: the records weren't saved correctly, or they haven't spread yet. Check these:

  • Look at your TXT records first. Extra spaces in the value are a common cause.

  • Make sure the _www TXT record is there. A missing _www record is another common cause.

  • Check every record for typos and make sure your changes were saved at your domain provider.

  • If everything looks right, give it time. It can take up to 72 hours.

🌐 Without www (optional)

Your storefront works on the www address of your domain without this step. It only helps people who type your domain without www. In the Without www section, tap How to set it up to see the steps.

At your domain provider, turn on forwarding (sometimes called a redirect) from your domain to the https://www version of it, set to permanent (301). Some providers, GoDaddy included, change your www record when you turn on forwarding, so check it's still there afterwards.

🔗 Sharing your domain

When you share links, use the www address. It keeps the full link working.

💳 On a free trial?

If you're on a free trial, you'll be asked to choose how you'd like to pay and start paying before you connect your domain. Once you do, you can connect it straight away.

✉️ Sending emails from your own domain

If you're setting up a domain to send your emails from, add its records wherever your domain's DNS is managed. While records are still missing, the status shows Waiting for DNS. Once all the required records are found, it changes to Needs activating.

Adding the records alone isn't enough. Click Activate so the email system can verify your domain. While it's checking, the button shows Activating….

Your domain shows as In use only after it's verified. Until then, your emails still send from WithMe's shared domain.

If you get stuck, message us from the chat bubble and we will help.
