🏷️ How to Apply a Promo Code as a Customer (App Store vs Native Checkout)

Explains why customers see an App Store redirect instead of a promo code field on memberships, and how to use the web browser checkout to successfully apply a promo code.

Why Am I Being Redirected to the App Store?

If you're trying to use a promo code on a membership but keep getting redirected to the App Store, don't worry, this happens because Apple and Google's in-app purchase systems handle payments differently.

When you access a membership link on a mobile device, your phone may route you through the App Store or an in-app purchase flow. You'll typically see the App Store product page or a system payment sheet, with no place to enter a code. Apple and Google's in-app purchase systems do not support third-party promo codes β€” only the creator's native web checkout does.

The fix is simple: complete your purchase through the web browser checkout instead.

How to Apply Your Promo Code via Web Checkout

  1. Open the membership link in a web browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) rather than the app. If the link keeps opening the App Store, long-press the link and choose "Open in Browser" (on Android, this may say "Open in Chrome" or "Open in external browser").

  2. On the checkout page, look for a promo code link or text field. This typically appears near the price summary, often as a clickable "Have a promo code?" link or an input field just above the payment button.

  3. Enter your code exactly as the creator shared it and tap Apply.

  4. Confirm the discounted price is reflected. You should see the original price crossed out and the new total displayed, then complete your purchase using your preferred payment method.

Troubleshooting

If you still don't see a promo code field on the web checkout:

  1. Check you're on the web version. Make sure your browser address bar shows a URL (not an app screen). On iOS, you can paste the membership link directly into Safari.

  2. Try a desktop or laptop. If your mobile browser keeps redirecting to the app, opening the link on a computer guarantees you'll get the native checkout.

  3. Confirm the code is still valid. Promo codes can have expiry dates or usage limits. Reach out to the creator if your code shows as invalid.
