You can control who joins your community by turning on member approval. Once it's on, new members who join directly have to wait for your approval before they get access.

Every community you create or edit has an Approve new members switch on the community edit screen.

This switch is off by default, so nothing changes for your community until you turn it on.

Once Approve new members is on, anyone who joins directly becomes a pending request. They get no access to the community's content, including paid members, until you approve them.

Members who joined before you turned approval on, or who were already approved, keep their access. This switch only affects new people joining after you turn it on.

If you turn Approve new members off while people are still pending, you'll see a confirm dialog first.

If you confirm, all pending requests are automatically approved and those members get access right away.
