Paid Community Approval: Charges, Declines, and Refunds

Understand how checkout, declines, and refunds work when Approve new members is on for a paid community.

💳 How Charges Work With Approval On

If your community is paid and you have Approve new members turned on, people are still charged at the moment they request to join. They go through normal checkout right away.

That charge does not give them access. They stay pending until you approve them, just like a free community request. Only your approval unlocks the community's content for them.

đŸš« What Happens If You Decline

If you decline a paid request, their Stripe subscription is cancelled immediately, so they will not be charged again going forward.

Declining does not automatically refund the charge they already paid. If you want to give them a refund, you need to do that yourself.

↩ Issuing a Refund

  1. Go to Customers.

  2. Find the person you declined and issue a refund for their charge.

To issue refunds yourself from the platform, you need a Stripe Standard account connected. If you don't have one connected, you won't be able to refund from here.

✅ Quick Recap

Approving: they're charged at request time, and approval gives them access.

Declining: their subscription is cancelled right away, but any refund is up to you to issue manually from Customers.
