🧾 How to Add Your Statement Descriptor (Required for Stripe Compliance)

Updated over 2 months ago

Stripe requires every creator’s connected account to include a statement descriptor — this is the short text that appears on your members’ bank or card statements whenever they make a payment to you.

Setting this up helps Stripe verify your account and ensures your members recognize charges made to your community, which helps prevent payment disputes or chargebacks.

💡 What Is a Statement Descriptor?

A statement descriptor is what your members see on their billing statement.
For example:

  • WITHME*THEWYTCHHAVEN

  • WITHME*RONALDNIXONSR

It helps your members identify where the charge came from, keeping things transparent and trustworthy.

⚠️ Why It’s Important

If your connected Stripe account doesn’t have a statement descriptor:

  • Your card payments and payouts may be restricted until the requirement is completed.

  • Stripe may send you reminder emails to update it before the due date.

🪄 How to Add or Update Your Statement Descriptor

Here’s how you can do it in just a few minutes:

  1. Go to your WithMe dashboard.

  2. Navigate to Settings → Billing.

  3. Click on Edit Payment Details (this opens your Stripe Connect dashboard).

  4. In your Stripe dashboard, go to Public details or Business settings.

  5. Find the field called Statement descriptor.

  6. Enter a clear and recognizable name (for example, WITHMEYOURBRANDNAME).

  7. Click Save.

Tips for choosing your descriptor:

  • Use only letters, numbers, and spaces (no emojis or special symbols).

  • Maximum length is 22 characters.

  • Make sure it’s something your members will recognize immediately.

🕓 What Happens Next

Once saved, Stripe will automatically verify and apply the descriptor.
You don’t need to do anything else unless Stripe flags additional requirements — in that case, you’ll receive an email or see a notification in your dashboard.

🧩 Still Seeing the Warning Email?

If you’ve already updated your descriptor but still receive a Stripe email, don’t worry — it can take up to 24 hours for Stripe to refresh the account status.

If the warning persists after that, please contact WithMe Support and we’ll double-check your connected account status with Stripe.

Keeping your account details complete helps prevent payout delays and ensures a smooth experience for you and your members. 💛
